About the organization:

Breaking Boards Breaking Chains (BBBC) was created in 2013 as Martial Arts for Justice’s (MAJ) premier national fundraiser. Each year, martial arts schools from across Canada participate in the “break-a-thon” dedicated to supporting a branch of one of the largest human rights organizations in the world, International Justice mission (IJM) Canada, whose focus is to seek justice for victims of violence and oppression in underdeveloped countries. Normally held in the month of April, BBBC is Canada’s largest board-breaking marathon for charity. Each board is worth a donation value, and the majority of the fundraising is completed prior to the event. Students, instructors, and the public are encouraged to break a board as a representation of “breaking the chains of oppression.” This action ultimately inspires participants to recognize that not only can they empower themselves, but they can also empower others around the world by standing against violence, oppression, all forms of abuse, physical slavery and the injustice that surrounds it.
